Student work.
The instructor will begin the lesson by asking the student if he knows what stop motion animation is. The teacher will then show the student various examples of stop motion animation. The teacher will then ask about the value of coin and paper money. The teacher will show the student various coins and ask the student to identify its value as review.
The teacher would give the math problem to student and the student will slove the problem by himself/herself. After he/she sloves the problem, the student will explain reasons, and start to make the story.
Then, The teacher will give the student an ipad, and explain “ Now, we will use an application to create a stop-motion animation movie of our own!” The teacher will teach student how to use the application. For instance, the teacher will say: “First, we are going to take some pictures by clicking the button here.” and then show how to do as examples. Then, the studnet will take pictures to show the process of solving the problem. During this, the teacher will teach how to edit the video like deleting or changing the speed, add music, and post it on YouTube. and how to gather information we need, make sure we include all of the scenes of the story, create the settings, snap photos, adjust the broadcasting speed, then put it on iMovie to add text or voice and post it on Youtube.
After teaching the use of the application, the teacher will ask if there are any questions; the teacher will clarify any question that the student has. The teacher will then say “we are going to create a math word problem by using this stop motion application. A math word problem tells a story about math, rather than just having all of the numbers in an equation”. The teacher will read the steps in the chart below to the student . “First we have to plan. So we have to plan what we want our story to be about. To write our story we have to have a subject, and tell what that subject is going to do. What do you want your story to be about, and what do you want to happen?” The student should provide an answer, for instance he may say “I want my story to be about a family that went to Walmart, chose three items, and then we have to figure out how much money that family would need to complete the math problem.” Then we have to solve the problem. We will decide what is going to happen in our stop motion movie and figure out how to write the problem.
After we do this we are going to check our problem to make sure that it makes sense and that someone can actually solve the problem based on what we wrote. The teacher will expand on what the child says to help write the actual story. If the student struggles to create his own problem, then the teacher can provide an example for the student to follow.
The teacher will then give the student time to create his movie using drawings or figures of his choice. The teacher will observe to ensure that he is creating the stop motion animation movie appropriately. Once he has completed the movie, the instructor will give the student an opportunity to add music or a voice recording to the movie by uploading it to iMovie. Once this is complete, the instructor will upload it to Youtube. During this time, the student will complete the worksheet. The student will write down the link to his video so that he will be able to show his family, friends and teacher the great movie that he has made about the value of money.
